My name is Jonah Sinick.
I finished a Ph.D. in math at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign under the direction of Nathan Dunfield in 2011. My research papers are on ArXiv. I've also written an expository letter about the appearance of special values of zeta functions in topological and geometric contexts.
I'm very interested in mathematical exposition and in bringing the beauty and depth of mathematics to a larger audience. I've been working to recast deep mathematics in elementary ways that are accessible to beginners since I first became seriously interested in math as a high schooler in 2002. I have experience working with children who are interested in math from my three summers (2004, 2005 & 2006) at MathPath, a camp for middle schoolers who are interested in math. I'm available to tutor mathematically curious youth. My lessons are centered around building the higher order thinking skills of problem solving, critical thinking and abstract pattern recognition. When I first meet a student, I work with him or her to determine his or her mathematical interests, and then help the student develop an understanding of the central mathematical questions in these areas. I incorporate interdisciplinary content into my lessons, placing the mathematics in the context of its historical development and its practical applications. You can reach me at jsinick@gmail.com.
